Transcript of remarks by SCED at media session in Beijing
Following is the transcript of remarks made by the Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr Gregory So, at a media session before attending the 26th Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Ministerial Meeting today (November 7):
Reporter: What is the progress with the free trade zone, and what kind of role do you think Hong Kong will play?
Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development: I am very pleased that there is progress in the Senior Officials' Meeting in APEC this week. In terms of the APEC free trade zone, I think that will bring the economies together. We have various stages of development in these economies, therefore I think this blueprint for the way forward, this roadmap is very, very important, including capacity building, helping some of these economies to be at the level when they could conduct trade at a very efficient and effective manner. So I think this decision, this roadmap for the way forward is very constructive, and I hope that in the meetings to come at various levels, ministerial as well as leaders' meetings, this topic could be further discussed, and given impetus for progress.
