Pet dogs now have embedded microchips for identification and vaccination purposes. Microchips as tiny as a grain of rice and containing a unique identification code are inserted under the loose skin on the back of a dog. The code can be retrieved by using a hand-held Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) scanner held close to the chip without the need to touch the dog. The code enables authorities to access relevant pet records online, including the particulars of the owner and vaccination history. The system provides better management and control of pets, and helps to trace the owners of lost pets.
