SCED to visit Chile and Mexico
The Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr Gregory So, will depart Hong Kong tomorrow (August 22) for a duty visit to Santiago in Chile and Mexico City in Mexico to foster Hong Kong's economic and trade relations with the two countries.
On the visit Mr So will be joined by a business delegation led by the Executive Director of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), Ms Margaret Fong.
While in Chile on August 24 and 25, Mr So will first meet with government officials and members of the business sector in Santiago to discuss issues relating to economic and trade relations between Hong Kong and Chile. He will also attend luncheons hosted by the HKTDC and the Chilean business community, and will take the opportunity to meet with the Chinese Ambassador to Chile, Mr Li Baorong. On August 25, Mr So will also visit the cities of Casablanca and Valparaiso.
Mr So will visit Mexico City on August 26 and 27, where he will meet with government officials and business leaders to exchange views on Hong Kong and Mexico's economic and trade prospects. He will also attend a luncheon with Mexican businessmen hosted by the HKTDC, and meet with the Chinese Ambassador to Mexico, Mr Qiu Xiaoqi.
Mr So will fly to San Francisco in the United States on August 28, where he will first visit an electric vehicle manufacturer. He will then have a meeting with officials of San Francisco to learn about the regulation of food trucks in the city, followed by a site visit to see some food trucks. He will also pay a courtesy call on the Chinese Consul-General in San Francisco, Mr Luo Linquan. In the evening, he will attend a dinner with the Board of Directors of the Hong Kong Association of Northern California.
Mr So will return to Hong Kong in the morning on August 30. The Under Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr Godfrey Leung, will be the Acting Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development during Mr So's absence.
