SCED to attend APEC ministerial meeting in Indonesia
The Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr Gregory So, will depart for Surabaya, Indonesia this afternoon (April 19) to attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Meeting of Ministers Responsible for Trade (MRT) to be held on April 20 and 21.
During the MRT Meeting, trade ministers from APEC member economies will discuss the three priorities for APEC this year under the theme "Resilient Asia-Pacific, Engine of Global Growth". They are attaining the Bogor Goals; achieving sustainable growth with equity; and promoting connectivity.
Ministers will also exchange views on how APEC could contribute to the 9th Ministerial Conference of the World Trade Organization (WTO) to be held in Bali, Indonesia in December this year. The Deputy Director-General of the WTO, Mr Alejandro Jara, will brief ministers on the state of play of the Doha Development Agenda negotiations.
Mr So will be back in Hong Kong on April 22.
