Hongkong Post provides reliable, efficient and universal postal services at reasonable prices to meet the needs of Hong Kong and its international postal obligations. It has been operating as a trading fund department since August 1995. This gives it a higher degree of flexibility in resource management in order to respond more effectively to changes in markets and operating environment, improve productivity, efficiency and customer service standards and introduce new services to its customers.
Other than letter service, Hongkong Post also provides parcel, Speedpost and Local Courierpost services. Parcel service is offered locally as well as overseas, covering more than 230 destinations by air or surface. The Speedpost service is a speedy and reliable way of transmitting documents, samples and merchandise to 216 overseas destinations. A SpeedpostFreight service is also available to provide customers with the best value-for-money service by sending bulk consignments to all the Speedpost destinations around the world. The Local Courierpost service provides local express delivery of documents and packages within half-day and the Local Courierpost Premium Service guarantees delivery within 2.5 hours.
Since its launch in April 2000, the PayThruPost service has provided customers with great convenience to settle bill payments by cash, cheque and EPS at all post offices. The service now accepts both utility bills and Government bills.
Hongkong Post also leverages on its extensive retail and distribution network to meet customer needs with a series of one-stop-shop postal and related business solutions. These include the reciprocal Postal Remittance Service which provides an efficient and economic way to transmit funds abroad and acceptance of trade declaration documents for electronic transmission.
Hong Kong stamps continue to be popular with the public of Hong Kong. Customers can subscribe to the Local Standing Order Service for the delivery or collection of their stamp issue orders. A convenient on-line shopping service, ShopThruPost, is provided for purchase of gifts, postshop and philatelic products on Hongkong Post's Internet shopping website: www.shopthrupost.hk.
To enable the development of electronic commerce in Hong Kong, Hongkong Post established a public key infrastructure and acts as the first public certification authority in Hong Kong in January 2000. Hongkong Post issues digital certificates, namely e-cert, to individuals and businesses to authenticate the identity of the subscribers over the Internet.
