SCED continues his visit to Shanghai and Tianjin

The Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr Gregory So, today (September 19) continued his visit to Shanghai and Tianjin.

In the morning, Mr So visited Shanghai's creative cluster, Bridge 8, to see how the site was developed through the revitalisation of old community facilities and the injection of innovative and technological elements.

Bridge 8 is a creative hub converted from an abandoned factory. It brings modern and creative elements into historic preservation, and has turned the old factory into a new landmark in the city. Bridge 8 brings various creative businesses together. Its tenants include renowned domestic and international creative enterprises, and some are from Hong Kong.

Mr So also visited the International Imported Goods Exhibition & Trading Center in ShanghaiMart and Hongqiao Central Business District to learn more about the latest commercial developments in Shanghai.

The establishment of the International Imported Goods Exhibition & Trading Center was approved by the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce. It provides a platform for different countries and regions to display and sell their products. Currently, more than 15 countries and regions are displaying their goods, including food and wine, houseware, jewellery, clothing, high-end business gifts, luxury goods and more at the Permanent Exhibition Centre.

Shanghai Hongqiao Central Business District is highly connected with the Hongqiao Integrated Transport Hub. It is a cluster of Shanghai's modern service industries and a new platform for Shanghai's international trade centre. With the presence of many domestic and overseas company headquarters and trade organisations, Shanghai Hongqiao Central Business District has become a high-end business centre supporting commercial activities not only in the Yangtze River Delta and the Yangtze River Basin but also across the whole country.

After his visit to Shanghai, Mr So departed for Tianjin to attend the opening of the 2012 China Tourism Industries Exposition to be held tomorrow and to visit the Tianjin International Cruise Home Port. He will then continue his Mainland trip with a visit to Beijing before returning to Hong Kong on September 21.
